Question 12 :: What is our only hope in life and death?

Answer:

That we are not our own but belong body and soul to God through our Savior Jesus Christ.

Children:

That we are not our own but belong to God.

Romans 14:7-8

For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone. If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.

Commentary:

Every temporal thing, person or activity in this life will ultimately leave us empty (Ecclesiastes).  Why? Because we are not our own.  Every human being belongs body and soul to God.

How can a created thing look to other created things for true satisfaction.  No, we must recognize we belong to the Creator and look for ultimate fulfillment in Him.  Before the creation of the world (Ephesians 1:4-7), God set in place the redemption plan through Jesus to bring the creation he loves back into perfect fellowship with its Creator.

Our only hope is to find, accept, and experience the hope this life was meant for in Christ.
